eBay Runs Seller Promotion But Caution Is Advised

Dear Ina,
I wanted to let you know so you can get the word out as there is a new eBay bug with the listing promotion happening on eBay right now which can cause wrong charges to be placed on your account. 

When I activated it, it said I had already used 390 listings out of the 500 already. (Only 139 active listings none of which were listed that day.) 

The amount of listings showing as used seems to be different for different accounts and, to speculate a bit, might be related to how many GTC listings that were canceled in an undetermined time frame.

If I would list 500 items and only 110 would be covered by the promotion and then it would eat the 50 free monthly ones and then charge me for each listing over. eBay rep says I was first to report the problem but am holding in a 48-hour holding pattern until technical support works on the issue. Hopefully if word gets out more people can call in and report the problem.

Looks like the normal promo terms to me.  You have to use up your monthly allowance before using the promo free listings.  The 390/500 thing that the OP is referring to is a bit of a mystery, unless he has a Premium store with 500 free per month, 390 used.  But doesn't sound like that is what he is expecting to see, judging by the number of active listings.  Might be an altogether different subject.

Caution should be advised using eBay at all, and especially doing anything they suggest or believing anything they announce. They are not to be trusted at any step of the process. They just want to use sellers and their listings for themselves. Their only interest is to get money from you in every way possible, be it legal or not. No other "selling platform" has so many levels of fees along with underlying schemes and trickery that lead to more fees.

No seller is forced to list on eBay

Unhappy sellers who stay on eBay are like women who get beaten by their husband yet stay with them. . .I can't understand that kind of thinking.

If I hated eBay I wouldn't be selling there!

I don't like Amazon, so I don't sell or buy there!

Thats not an excuse to harm "your partners".

Alot of people are in this business - and Im not referring to the yoyos on youtube.

Amazon may be #1 - but the rules or items cant be sold there - so by default eBay is #2.

But, for a company that does so little and takes so much for it - it would be nice if sellers were abused LESS (aka not at all).

Similar problem for me, May and July, I accepted 100 free auction, I relisted 100 to run 10 day auction. eBay tallied up and displayed on screen I would be charged nothing. My monthly 50 free we're eaten up and I was charged $0.35 for the other 50 items. eBay did credit me for 2 months of errors, but they still don't understand what I'm talking about, I talked to two different reps. They thought I was running a 30-day and was charged .35. Gave up explaining. Even wrote in email.
