eBay Returns Dates to Feedback, Sellers Cautiously Rejoice

A reader tipped us off today to a big change: "eBay is now once again displaying the exact date feedback was left/received as of today." But some users who noticed the change that began rolling out yesterday seemed fearful that it might be a glitch rather than a new policy change.

eBay had removed the date and time that had displayed next to feedback comments a year and a half ago (late August 2014). As we wrote at the time, "The change makes it harder to identify trading partners since eBay has removed the date that the feedback was left and replaced it with very general time periods, including "Past 1 month.""

While eBay has now returned the exact date a user left a feedback comment, it has not returned the time of day the feedback was left.

In 2014, one seller described their reaction to the removal of feedback comment dates by writing, "It seems like whatever change eBay makes, the change takes something that was clear and transparent to a state of being opaque. This is surely intentional on eBay's part. eBay seem to want their sellers to have the most minimal information related to their transactions."

Another said, "So now I can't see how much feedback I'm getting each day to see? There is literally no benefit to this change. Now I can't even see what time they left the feedback, if it was before or after my messages."

Some users said at the time they felt eBay was reacting to concerns over buyer privacy.

eBay has not announced any changes to feedback recently, leaving sellers on this discussion board thread wondering if yesterday's change is a temporary glitch or a permanent change.

A reader told EcommerceBytes, "Though this change itself probably does not assist too much with any real insight; it is indicative of perhaps an eBay which is becoming more transparent again and stepping back from some of the overwhelming unnecessary secrecy of the past years."

Just something else for the people who sit in front of the computer to whine about. They need to get a life. Feedback is a joke and no longer counts against you so why are you wasting your time checking it hourly.

That is funny.

Could this change have been made in order to assist in verifying shipping and/or delivery dates? If positive feedback has been left on a certain date then a claim could not be made for late delivery after the feedback date.

It's probably an accident, like most software development these days.

I like eBay Feedback, and this is good.  I like watching my feedback score grow (hopefully good feedback!)  I like the connection with my trading partner, even if only for a moment in time.  eBay lacks the sense of community that it once had, and really should try and get it back.  I've been on Etsy for just a little over a year now, and they have a really great sense of community.  It's not about joining a club or something, because I'm not into that, but more of a personal or personable experience I feel on there.  And, from some of the nice little conversations that I've had on eBay with inquiries, etc., the potential is certainly there to "grow" it, again.  I wish/hope they would/do.

Weren't you headed back to the swap meet a month or so ago, shortly after shipping prices went up?

I'd love to be cautiously optimistic, but eBay's entire history shows us that anything eBay does is solely for the benefit of eBay.

Bring back visible buyer IDs as well and I might be impressed.

What happened to your pot business? Which you definitely cannot sell on eBay.

"Some users said at the time they felt eBay was reacting to concerns over buyer privacy." - I suppose that if any Buyer-Member were really concerned about their own privacy then they could stop posting that malicious bullshit on Seller's Feedback when they don;t get something for nothing? A first year law student could dream up a a more equitable rating system than that.

The Buyer identity, Transaction ID, etc. has always been available through the TRS Reports that seem to have no basis in reality as far as USPS tracking data is concerned.

Besides, I'm more concerned about weightier stuff, like how come sometimes the Seller's Store Door is RED, and sometimes it's BLUE ... is this some type of sublime eBay political statement?

@Shop and Ship:  Do they still do the Red Door or Blue Door?  Mine changed to blue over a year ago at least.  I always felt that I was "turned on" when my store door was red, and that I was hidden when it was blue.  I asked eBay rep about it then and they said it had nothing to do with that, but I still never believed them...Let me know if you still have a red door (because my sales have stunk ever since it's been blue permanently.)

Great news for me. I take pride in my 100% feedback and enjoy watching it grow knowing that my customers feel safer shopping with me. It's the same reason I work hard to keep my Top Rated status.

I thinks they've run out of things to ''improve'' and disrupt so some bright spark has come up with the idea of. ''Now we've nothing to do lets start rolling back all the changes from the past 5-7 years, one by one and laugh at all the ''noise'' out there (who pay our wages) start jumping up and down with joy. That will give us something to do for the next 5 years and you never know, it might even make the site even more clicky and unreliable''.
