USPS to Hike Shipping Rates during Holiday Shopping Season

If you price yourself to high - people will just go to Fed Ex and USPS ..... sure - kill the goose thats laying the golden egg - right at Xmas time ..... not too smart there.

I only care about First Class Package rates as that is how 99% of my items ship. After looking at the proposed rates versus the current rates, I don't see any difference in the rates.

It's kind of a slimy thing to do, raising the rates during the Christmas buying season.

Guess come mid October we will just up our shipping on everything by a 1.00. A little for me, a little for the USPS and a little for greedbay. Will just leave it there as there is the usual price hike in January.

IDK, how is it that here in the US we had the lowest prices on just about everything up until about 15 years ago. Now we have some of the highest prices on everything. Seriously, the cost of living is lower in europe?? what happened?

Redcabin and Sparrow: you raise an interesting issue re First Class. I haven't had time to delve into it, but it's important to compare apples to apples: Current Commercial rate vs planned Commercial rate, and current Retail rate vs Planned Retail rate.

(Whichever online postage provider you use should be able to tell you how your Commercial rates will be impacted.)

So, the new USPS honcho is transparently trying to hamstring the service by severely reducing service capacity and related trustworthiness by stealthily trashing processing machines, curtailing delivery, removing collection boxes, and now surreptitiously raising prices by using lack of funds to support increased volume as justification, at the same time YOUR government representatives are napping on their ‘break’ from their arduous toils.

How many more whacks upside the head will it take before the collective ‘you’ will notice the politically spiked bat he’s using?

Pressure your representatives to return to their work and pass the necessary relief bill needed not just to remove this ‘justification’, but also all other relief so desperately needed - now.

It works. No matter what side of the aisle you, and they, clap from. It works, because they ALL want the chance to get re-elected. If you don’t, you WILL pay. For more than just economically transporting a box virtually instantly across the continent, too.

Gee a price increase right at voting time, who could have predicted that. The recent policy changes to when post offices can send out packages, directives to not scan packages until they reach distribution centers, taking out sorting machines, cutting staff hours, etc are having a very noticeable effect on service and causing a lot of angst with customers.

I though Amazon and China were the villains behind USPS losses yet it is the small businesses and public who are being hit here?
