Mark Your Calendar for the eBay Spring Seller Update

Sellers, get ready for changes ahead - eBay executives are preparing to discuss seller updates in 2 weeks in what appears to be the first of its twice-yearly Seller Updates.

eBay will discuss a range of updates in a 1-hour seller check-in on February 24th, which is the typical date around which eBay announces its Spring update. According to the agenda, executives will cover the following:

Marketplace updates: eBay Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Seller Community Andrea Stairs

Seller updates: Director of Seller Engagement and Community, Rebecca Michals

eBay Inc updates: Senior Vice President and General Manager of eBay North America

Seller experience demos: Vice President, Head of Seller Experience Harry Temkin

Managed payments updates: Senior Director of Payment Services Keala Gaines

Customer service updates: Senior Director of Customer Experience Hazel Mitchell

eBay inevitably announces changes between announcements despite its commitment to consolidate them. Some of the changes eBay made since its last Seller Update on September 9, 2020, include a major policy change on who can sell "certified" refurbished goods, and a change in how sellers must pay Store fees when enrolled in Managed Payments.

Some changes were category-specific, such as a new shipping option called eBay Standard Envelope (trading cards); new rules around selling sneakers; fee changes in Business & Industrial; and a change to eBay's policy around returns for certain collectible trading-card categories.

eBay also notified some sellers it would lift restrictions on coins and bullion for those enrolled in Managed Payments effective January 25, but it subsequently said it would begin letting some sellers list in the Coins, Paper Money and Bullion categories beginning February 1st and would add other sellers in stages through March 9th.

To help readers who may be unfamiliar with Seller Updates (or for those needing a refresher), we put together a guide, which you can find in this EcommerceBytes Newsflash article.

Let us know what changes you think eBay will announce in 2 weeks!

There can't be many changes left to make other than finally officially announce the changes they have already made but never told anybody about them. I'm guessing the attorneys finally told them they need to add all of these changes to the UA before they get a class action lawsuit against them that they wind up losing no matter how much they claim to only be a venue.

Higher fees. Even if they have to sneak them in or piggyback them onto an existing fee, you can bet it will cost more to sell on eBay..

Let me summarize in advance...

" Hey eBay Sellers.... Good News!!!"

"We not only found new busy work that is guaranteed to consume hours of your time and produce zero positive improvements for you, but we found some new rules we can impose that will make your selling experience worse than it already is....  OH.... almost forgot to mention, we have some new fees you will soon be facing."

" Oh yeah, almost forgot to remind you that as with all of our changes... You spoke and we listened. "

Rumours

1) forced store subscriptions for certain types of sellers
2) higher store prices (all? some?)
3) updated returns policies due to MP (like the auto loss if a buyer does a chargeback directly to their bank)
4) qualifications to be let in to more categories (ala the refurbished crap)
5) announcement of a higher percentage of sellers in MP
6) forced advertising ala Etsy

Im sure theres more - the above are what people are saying - doesnt mean a hill of beans - but Id have to venture that what SIK said about changes to the TOS is %101 correct - as its the ONLY legal method eBay has to control sellers - when you log on - its an automatic agreement and surrender of your rights.

I remember when fees doubled to 10% with the reason given it was for our benefit. The benefit of dumb sellers. To make it easy to work out fees.
Now managed payments have mess up the nice round figures......... maybe some more benefits are coming.

I received an invitation to join the update online.  It is stated that it will take 1 hour.  But, apparently eBay does not want to know what sellers think as they are only allowing 10 minutes for questions.  As always with eBay, it will end up as more work for sellers and possibly higher fees.

And believe me, those questions will be vetted to the satisfaction of the corporate suits.

There comes a time when a seller says: I DON'T CARE ANYMORE

I have more important things in my life than eBay

I'm in the process of breaking these handcuffs.

Most seller updates are just crap.

Its usually higher fees or some stupid idea that eBay wants to force sellers into - one that will make them more money.

You can bet any amount of money that somewhere (if not in this one) eBay will simply say "Theres no seller protection unless you use eBay shipping)(not that there is any now) - to insure that sellers pay up to San Jose.

EVERYTHING eBay does is a con - its all for me and "drop dead" to sellers.

Its the reason that Mercari even exists and that Posh not only exists and does well but went public.

Wheres the media? Where are the so called "smart people of investing"? No where - either asleep or part of the pay off.
