USPS TV Commercial Features Online Retailers

The USPS began airing a new TV commercial on Monday featuring online retailers. The 30-second spot shows a mail carrier picking up packages at several businesses and delivering mail to customers - the narrator reads the following:

"This is a story about mail and packages. And it's also a story about people - people who rely on us every day to deliver their dreams. They're handing us more than mail. They're handing us their business. And while we make more ecommerce deliveries to homes than anyone else in the country, we never forget that your business is our business. The United States Postal Service. Priority:You."

The 30-second spot is part of the Postal Service's "Priority: You" campaign. According to the abstract published on the USPS YouTube Channel:

"We ship more e-commerce packages to homes than anyone else in the country. We're able to do this in large part due to the people who trust us with their business. Because they know when they ship with us, their business becomes our business. This campaign shows the partnership we enjoy with our customers every day."

It is ''damage control'' for the USPS, and the reason they are disrespected is really not their fault.

The Asian e-packet fiasco is the doing of the US government (specifically the Obama administration), and unfortunately most blame the postal service. They are just doing their job!!

And, as far as my business is concerned, they do an excellent job with my packages. It is a crying shame that they are hemorrhaging money.

The true advertising campaign should be ''The United States Government And eBay. Priority: China''.

It is not 'damage control'.  What damages apply?  One ratings newsworthy idiot carrier who now and then stashes mail in their garage does not a 'typical' operations make. Of course, when it happens to you, its easy to assume it's prevalent.

What it is, is a tactile acknowledgement and response to a real demographically specific market requirement.  And it's not a 'new' recognition either.  The need to accommodate an unprecedented global increase in eCommerce package shipment with a trusted and economically competitive service solution exists now, and the USPS is not only prepared to offer that, they are experienced.

Incidentally, their operations ARE 'profitable' BECAUSE they are efficient with costs.  They have to be, no tax dollars are spent to support this enterprise.  It's the insane requirement to prefund retirement benefits 75 years into the future that puts them in red ink on paper every quarter.  That particular requirement is mandated by Congress.  Which works for the people.  Or is supposed to, if We, The People, care to ensure it.

One thing ppl tend to forget too - EVERYBODY gets mail.  Which includes everyone employed in the USPS.  They pay full price for services too.  What other service entity can say that?  What other service entity has thus, such a vested interest to get it right - as a priority no less?

Now it's time to give small and medium online sellers a lower rate. Have a program in place for discounts on volume that is measured per quarter not all at once.

@SNAPPED

Not everyone gets mail. Haven't had mail in this house in about 4 years. It ya all can't do it on the computer or the phone you are in the dark past.

All I want is for the Chinese's free ride to end.  Too many imbeciles demand free shipping because they don't know, and don't want to know, that free shipping on knockoffs from China is subsidized by higher domestic rates.  They're perfectly happy to listen to some dropout on the radio blame the post office for a policy they were forced into by traitors on Wall Street.

So FF, you've never received a parcel via USPS at your residence?  Last I checked, they don't teleport electronically yet.

The China syndrome is the responsibility of the the State Department. Thank you Hillary.
The USPS has spent million so you can get a e-mail scan of the junk mail to delivered, What a waste.
Put on Bar-code on everyone mailbox, scan package, scan Mail box bar code. Delivery complete.
Since the upper management of the USPS has never worked outside of the USPS, they are clueless of better ways to use bar code technology.

@phantom
Oh so it's just a coincidence that Donahole's brother was postmaster when the disasterous ePacket program was established?  Nice try blaming the federal government boogeyman for policy pushed by private sector lobbyists.

The commercial that I want to see has a woman taking Ambien and sleep shopping. A few days later her helpful mail carrier delivers large packages that she doesn't remember ordering.
This really is happening. Shop keepers on Etsy were talking about it in the forums.
I think the postal service does a pretty good job with all it has to deliver.  Individual carriers are another matter.
If you use Etsy labels you get the commercial rate.  I love being able to print my own labels and ship from my mail box.  Beats the heck out of having to run to the post office like in the old days.
With all the online shipping going on now the postal service should be in the black. They should not be raising prices on domestic parcels while giving the foreign factories a cut rate.
