Are Amazon Delivery Delays Turning Off Prime Members?

Shoppers who belong to the Amazon Prime shipping program are seeing delays in expected delivery of their packages. It’s not clear whether it’s a software glitch that is displaying incorrect dates, or whether the company is actually unable to fulfill Prime orders in its promised 2-day delivery time frame. The problem began as early as Saturday and continued into Cyber Monday.

Either way, it could turn off some of Amazon’s best shoppers during the busiest shopping days of the entire year.

Amazon shoppers pay an annual fee of $99 to get membership in Amazon Prime, which entitles them to free 2-day shipping.

A buyer who ordered a package on Saturday asked on the Amazon help boards, “Why is my delivery date Thursday with two day shipping? Shouldn’t it be Wednesday at the latest?”

Sellers also discussed the issue on the seller boards. On Monday evening, a seller said she was told by customer support there was a bug in the system.

Whether a software glitch or actual logistics delays, the problem is a rare misstep for Amazon. We asked a company representative for information about the issue on Monday, he did not respond by press time.
