UPS and FedEx Changes Prompt eBay to Update Shipping Calculator

eBay is updating its shipping calculator in preparation forthcoming rate changes from FedEx and UPS, and it reminded sellers to adjust their shipping costs to reflect the new rates.

In addition to their annual rate increases, UPS and FedEx are implementing dimensional weight pricing for ground services for packages over three cubic feet or more. The impact is on large, lightweight packages – shipping price is calculated based on package volume, so dim weight rates apply to packages where the “dimensional weight” is greater than the actual weight.

“In order for eBay customers to obtain accurate estimates on shipping rates, it’s important that sellers include not only correct shipping weights but also correct package dimensions when listing items or purchasing a label,” eBay wrote in its announcement.

As EcommerceBytes has previously reported, FedEx is raising rates by an average of 4.9% on January 5, 2015. Among the services affected are FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight. The new dimensional weight pricing will also take effect on January 5th.

UPS is also raising rates by an average of 4.9%, which take effect on December 29, 2014.

eBay said it would update its shipping calculator, eBay labels, and PayPal labels to reflect the rate changes.
