Amazon Promotes Mobile Appstore with $5 Christmas Giveaway

Amazon is best known for its online marketplace, but is also known for its Kindle tablets, for which it provides another kind of marketplace – this one for developers and publishers to sell digital applications – known as the Amazon Appstore.

Amazon announced it is giving away $5 credits to customers who download an app or game from its new app store. The promotion is timed for Christmas week as millions of people receive gifts of new phones and tablets.

The Amazon Appstore is similar to Apple’s App Store but supports the Android operating system rather than Apple’s iOS operating system. Amazon’s Kindle runs on the Android operating system, as do many other mobile devices.

Customers who download an app or game from the newest version of the Amazon Appstore for Android to their Android device between December 24 – 28 will receive a $5 credit to use on the future purchase of apps, games and in-app items from the Amazon Appstore. Customers have over 100,000 apps and games to choose from in the Amazon Appstore and on Kindle Fire devices.

In addition to this limited time offer, all Amazon Appstore customers will find a paid app for free every day, including Angry Birds Star Wars II and Where’s My Perry?, as well as exclusive Free App of the Day bundles on December 25 and December 26. Other top titles will be discounted by 50-90%.

More information on the Christmas week deals is available on the Amazon websiteand on the Amazon Appstore.
