eBay Enters into Strategic Relationship with BigCommerce

eBay is furthering its ties with BigCommerce, an ecommerce platform for small sellers wanting to easily set up their own store. When eBay killed off its own store-hosting solutions ProStores and Magento Go in 2015, eBay had recommended Bigcommerce as an alternative.

BigCommerce has had an eBay integration for several years, which allows BigCommerce merchants to list their products on eBay – but a new integration announced this week will allow merchants to manage listings and overall business in real-time, a BigCommerce spokesperson explained.

Merchants running their businesses with BigCommerce will be able to save time and operate more efficiently with the ability to list, manage and sell on the eBay marketplace through the BigCommerce control panel, the companies explained. Through the integration, business owners will be able to take advantage of several unique benefits, including centralized inventory management.

“Additionally, earlier this year BigCommerce and eBay Australia collaborated to launch the eBay LINK app, which is specific to the Australia/New Zealand market,” the BigCommerce spokesperson explained.

But BigCommerce sellers will have to wait for this new integration with eBay. The spokesperson said, “Beta testing for this integration will begin during the third quarter of 2016, with the system scheduled to go live soon after.”

eBay’s move comes as Amazon continues to cozy up to small merchants via BigCommerce rival Shopify. Etsy meanwhile is building its own “dummies” version of store-hosting for its sellers with the launch of Pattern this week.

eBay and Amazon have gone down the road that Etsy is taking with Pattern, but have each abandoned those efforts. Amazon announced last year it was shuttering its Webstore offering.
