eBay UK Imposes Product Attribute Requirements in Fashion

eBay rolled out new requirements for sellers listing in its fashion category on its UK website. As of February 13, 2019, sellers must fill out certain fields in its product catalog called Item Specifics when listing women’s dresses.

eBay is increasingly counting on its product catalog approach that is based on “structured data.” Sellers must fill out Item Specific attributes for colour (UK spelling), dress length, and style for their listings for women’s dresses.

The requirement applies to new and revised listings, although Good Til Cancelled (GTC) listings will exempt for now and will not be blocked upon renewal.

eBay told its UK sellers, “These new requirements for fashion listings in the Women’s Dresses category, will help you drive visibility and conversion for your business, and give buyers an improved and more relevant search experience.”

It said sellers who complete Item specifics sell better than those who don’t and claimed that listings for Women’s dress that had “style” and “dress length” Item Specifics sold an average of 81% better than those without.

eBay also pointed to an outside tool from third-party vendor Optiseller, which is offering its tool to help sellers update their Item Specifics on women’s dresses at no charge through March 31, 2019.
