The former head of eBay Marketplaces Hal Lawton has swiped a key eBay executive, hiring her away from his former employer to join him at Macy’s. Jill Ramsey will report directly to Lawton, who left eBay unexpectedly this year to become President of the department store chain.
Ramsey will become Chief Product and Digital Revenue Officer at Macy’s effective January 8, 2018. The retailer explains the role was established “to focus on reimagining how people shop, bridging the physical and digital worlds through seamless customer experiences.”
Ramsey will have oversight of both product and revenue for macys.com and the Macy’s app. Her specific responsibilities will include digital revenue, enterprise product management, the enterprise portfolio, digital merchandise management, site production, and the user experience.
Ramsey joined eBay in 2015 to head merchandising as Vice President, GM of Vertical Businesses. She came to eBay from Walmart.com where she had spent 15 years.
Lawton stated in a press release announcing the appointment, “I am extremely excited to have Jill join the Macy’s team. She is a strong fit for our business given her experience in product and digital leadership. Jill’s expertise in ecommerce and multichannel retail perfectly aligns to our goal to integrate technology through all aspects of the customer journey.”
