This is a special week for eBay as the company celebrates the 20th anniversary of its founding on Thursday. Time magazine devoted coverage to the anniversary with a few articles, including this one featuring an infographic.
The Mayor of San Jose, California, where eBay is headquartered, went so far as to proclaim it“eBay Day” on Tuesday.
EcommerceBytes has been devoting a lot of coverage about changes ahead promised by CEO Devin Wenig. On Tuesday, eBay published an interview with the head of eBay North America Hal Lawton, and while he didn’t get into many specifics about how changes will impact sellers, he did say he plans to rejuvenate and stabilize the marketplace.
eBay has been widely criticized by sellers for its executives’ lack of retail experience, but Lawton, who joined eBay this year, comes from retail chain The Home Depot. Here’s how he responds to the question, “What are your top priorities in your role as North American chief for eBay?”
“To rejuvenate the business, energize the organization, stabilize it. Our North American team has done a fantastic job on that over the last four months, and we just need to continue that journey over the next 8 to 12 months. Devin Wenig, our CEO, has outlined a series of initiatives, and we absolutely have to deliver on those.”
