Etsy Sellers Worry Glitch Could Put Accounts at Risk

In what appears to be a glitch, some Etsy sellers have reported that they have found themselves logged in to someone else’s account. Three reports came in on February 24th via posts on the Etsy boards, one on March 10th, and one on March 25th.

“Went to log into Etsy on my NEW phone, never logged in. And it automatically logged me in under someone elses account,” wrote one user. “It had all of their previous orders and credit card information. I could have easily ordered under their account. This is a HUGE BUG!! It has me scared for my own account! PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.”

Etsy spokesperson Nikki Summer sent us a statement on Saturday in response to our inquiry:

“We have investigated this thoroughly and have found no evidence of a security breach. Unfortunately, we can’t provide further details, as we cannot comment on specific member issues. We will continue to monitor this, as the privacy and security of our community is our utmost priority.”

On the thread started on March 25th, an Etsy moderator posted four updates in a three-day period, with her last post on Friday stating that things that might look related might not be, and stating, “We will continue any further communication directly with the member(s). If any information is necessary to share with the community, we will certainly post additional updates.”

On Saturday evening, a seller posting to the thread stated she was angry by the lack of updates and information about how sellers could protect their shops.
