eBay updated sellers on managed payments that began rolling out to a small percentage of sellers on September 24th. There’s been some pushback as sellers learned of major limitations of using eBay payments instead of PayPal-managed payments – at least in the short term.
In a post on the eBay corporate blog, Vice President of Payments Alyssa Cutright addressed some of these concerns, including whether it would allow sellers to opt out. As we’ve reported, some sellers have reported on the eBay boards that they’ve tried to opt out for a number of reasons, including the fact that their buyers cannot pay them via PayPal until the summer of 2019 at the earliest. Others are concerned about a warning from PayPal that they would be violating its terms of use if they had used its Working Capital funding solution.
Cutright provided some answers sellers (and EcommerceBytes) have pressed eBay to answer:
What are my options if managed payments isn’t right for my business now?
We are working with sellers one-on-one to understand whether managed payments is a fit for them. If managed payments doesn’t work for a seller, we want to work with them to see if we can help them be successful with the changes, ensure we understand and document what isn’t working, and if needed revert their account to the prior state. That said, the process to revert accounts to their prior payment settings can be complex as orders and listings can be in different states, and this process needs to be managed individually with each seller.
What are you doing to make buyers aware of alternative payment methods?
For buyers who purchase from managed payments sellers, the checkout flow notifies them that PayPal is not yet available. And when buyers are on a compatible mobile device, they will see ApplePay as an available option.
Cutright also addressed some of the limitations of the Managed Payments 1.0 version eBay rolled out last week:
When will you include other capabilities – like enabling managed payments for cross-border trade, making APIs available for integration, expanding managed payments to all categories and simplifying the global shipping process?
These are all on our roadmap. Keep in mind that we are starting small with select features and capabilities, and we will be incorporating additional functionality, including these, in time.

What a bunch of bull crap. I will never use managed payments since ALL of my buyers use PayPal. We are migrating to different venues since it looks like eBay is on the destructive path to ruins. After 19 years it is going to be a sad goodby but like Skip Mcgrath and others have said they are giving up on eBay because it is in a state of chaos.
As I originally said before and I will keep on saying it:

Huh? eBay flipped a switch and sellers were in Managed Payments. Why can’t they just flip the switch back to the “off” position and get the sellers out?

Anybody care to translate this to English? My first thought was to the opinion piece here recently about Cassini rotating the viewing of listings according to time zones and how much you have sold recently.
Fools! Why not “roll out” this new program WITH Paypal included? If not, we miss sales…they miss commissions on our sales…end result: a GD stupid way to try to do business! What is wrong with the
so-called management at eBay? Sounds like they aren’t even capable of tying their own shoes…let alone rolling out a program like this one! Why do they keep messing with the site? Every time they do we lose business and they lose sales and STILL they stagger on with even more schemes to grab money…schemes that are not well thought out and definitely NOT instituted flawlessly! Never ever thought I’d miss Meg Whitman!
Yes, Meg did a good job considering all of the crap that we have to put up with the 2 fools that followed her. It is totally unbelievable what eBay has become.
