eBay Expands Seller Ads to More Categories

eBay expanded its Promoted Listings ad program to include certain eBay Motors categories. The program is for sellers who are willing to pay to receive extra visibility on eBay in search results and other prominent locations on eBay.

eBay launched the program last year, and as we noted at the time, it’s not the first time eBay has offered an ad program for sellers. The good news: more sellers will be able to advertise their listings if they choose to do so. The bad news: sellers who can’t or won’t participate in the program may have even more difficulty gaining exposure in search results.

On Tuesday, eBay announced the availability of Promoted Listing ads in 15 Motors-related categories, including Automotive Tools & Supplies and select Motors Parts & Accessories categories.

According to the eBay website, Promoted Listings are currently available to all active eBay Stores subscribers in the US, UK, Germany, and Australia in the following categories: Antiques, Baby, Cell Phones & Accessories, Cameras & Photo, Clothing, Coins & Paper, Collectibles, Consumer Electronics, Computers/Tablet & Networking, Crafts, Dolls & Bears, Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, Jewelry & Watches, Musical Instruments & Gear, Pet Supplies, Pottery & Glass, Shoes & Accessories, Sporting Goods, Sports Memorabilia, Cards & Fan Shop, Stamps, Travel, Video Games & Consoles, Automotive Tools & Supplies and select categories within Parts & Accessories.

Only sellers who pay extra for an eBay Store subscription are allowed to participate. Sellers only pay when they make a sale – eBay explains, “You only pay the ad rate you select (1-20% of your final sale price, excluding shipping and tax) when your ad is clicked and the item is purchased, so it’s risk-free to try. You can have up to 500 listings per campaign and can promote up to 75% of your eligible inventory.”

You can read Tuesday’s full announcement on the eBay website.
