Etsy Sellers Can Look Forward to More Tools

It’s taken Etsy a while, but finally the marketplace is making more tools available to sellers, both directly and through third-party developers. Etsy has vowed to improve its tools and wants to hear feedback from seller about their needs.

During the company’s Town Hall Meeting last week, Nickey Skarstad of the Seller Experience team said sellers spent 50% of their time on non-creative tasks necessary to run their business, and promised to improve seller tools in the coming year.

In a blog post the following day, Etsy’s Cheyne Little wrote, “throughout 2014, Etsy will be working on tools to make it easier and faster to manage large batches of listings at the same time and list one-of-a-kind handmade and vintage items. We also have some new and improved shipping tools in the works for sellers around the world.”

She pointed to Etsy’s new Shipping Profiles, which allows sellers to apply shipping costs and processing time updates to multiple listings at once. She also asked sellers to consider taking a survey to volunteer for future user research and testing to help the company identify how it could support sellers with new tools. And like Skarstad at Etsy’s Town Hall meeting, Little suggested sellers review the marketplaces prototype teams, where sellers can participate in Etsy’s testing grounds.

It wasn’t that long ago that Etsy’s directory of apps was sparse, but you’ll find a lot more tools available from third-party developers, and more services are integrating their existing tools with Etsy.
