eBay Previews Fall Seller Update

eBay shared some specific information about the upcoming fall Seller Update – it will share full details next month. In a blog post on Friday, the head of eBay’s “trust” department said eBay would change the way it handed out defects to sellers with regard to shipping performance, but said the company would not implement changes to standards during the busy holiday season.

Laura Chambers, Vice President of Global Customer Trust, provided an example of one of the changes coming to seller performance standards: eBay will try to use objective measures rather than relying on buyer “opinions,” she said.

Chambers wrote, “You feel like many of the measurements in seller performance standards (like feedback and detailed seller ratings) are too subjective based on buyer opinions that aren’t always connected to the product and service that you delivered.” (See related story in today’s issue.)

Key things to note about the Fall Seller Update:

  • eBay will release full details of the Seller Release in September;
  • eBay will then provide sellers with a preview in their seller dashboards;
  • New seller performance standards will go into effect early next year (2016).

Chambers said she wanted to “accelerate trust between eBay and our selling community, and to continue to increase trust between sellers and buyers.” Take a look at more information on the new on-time shipping standards in today’s issue and on the eBay website and let us know what you think.
