Here Comes Another Etsy Sale

Etsy

Etsy logoEtsy is holding another sales event, this one in June to celebrate the 13th anniversary of its founding. The new CEO Josh Silverman is clearly a fan of sales and it appears to be a crucial strategy to help him fulfill his promise to Wall Street analysts that he can get buyers to return more often to the site.

Since Etsy doesn’t hold inventory, it relies on sellers to put their items on sale to participate. It introduced the concept (and seller tools) last year, running its first sitewide sale (for those sellers who participated) in conjunction with Labor Day. It ran a 2017 holiday sales event, a Spring event in March, and a Mother’s Day event.

The new 13th birthday sales event kicks off on June 18th (the day after Father’s Day). Sellers can participate by discounting one or more items by at least 10%, and Etsy will heavily promote the sale to shoppers on and off the site.

“We designed this sales event to celebrate the one-of-a-kind items that can only be found on Etsy,” the marketplace explained. Sellers can read more and get tips on this post on the Etsy Seller Handbook.

The sales event runs through June 22nd. “We’ll be promoting the sales event to shoppers through marketing emails, site banners, social media, press coverage, and Etsy’s homepage,” the company told sellers.

  1. How is it that Etsy can ever decide to have a sale?

Etsy doesn’t have any products to put on sale?

  2. Why would I want to celebrate the total annihilation of a what was originally the only consistent online space for artisans to make a living? And celebrate it by then discounting that work? LOL

Why celebrate handmade anything being replaced by factory made everything?
