“Why not make extra money the easy way,” eBay UK asked sellers in a special email invitation to some users. “List your items today and you’ll only pay when you sell.”
The promotion is limited to private (non-business) sellers who receive the invitation and actively opt in before listing. Eligible sellers who do so can list as many items as they wish without paying an insertion fee – eBay explains, “The number of listings eligible under this promotion is only limited by seller restrictions.”
The promotion applies to both auction and fixed-price listings.
Some sellers were concerned the email could be a spoof since it didn’t show up in their account, but the invitation stated, “This offer is not visible in the Promotional Offer section in my eBay.” (It’s unclear why eBay would engage in this practice, sellers are wise to be cautious when dealing with unsolicited email.)
According to the invitation: “eBay.co.uk registered private sellers who have been invited to participate and have actively opted in to the promotion via the RSVP link shown in the marketing communication. Participation is linked to the seller’s account and is not transferable. Sellers must be registered as a resident in the UK.”
The promotion kicked off on March 1st and runs through March 31st. All other fees apply, see your invitation for details and restrictions.
