Etsy reassured sellers on Monday after sellers noticed on Friday that the marketplace was displaying their personal names on customer email receipts instead of their business names.
Many sellers are vigilant about protecting personal information online, and some posting on the Etsy boards over the weekend indicated they were quite concerned. Some referenced a separate incident that took place in March when there were similar concerns about how Etsy displayed sellers’ personal names and the source of the information.
On Monday, Etsy posted the following message on the thread:
“We have an update on this issue for you. We did experience a bug over the past three days that prompted this change in the display of the seller order confirmation e-mail. Please note this change was only visible to sellers and no changes were made to the receipt email that buyers receive. We’ve addressed the bug so the seller order confirmation e-mail will no longer show the seller’s name on it; it will show only the Shop Name.
“We’d also like to confirm that the contact information pulled into the order confirmation e-mail was the name you provided during shop onboarding.
“We apologize for the confusion caused by this change. Your privacy is of the utmost importance to us.”
You can view the discussion thread on the Bugs forum on the Etsy boards where sellers continued to discuss the issue.
