Etsy Tinkers with Search, Retires Treasury

Etsy told sellers on Wednesday it is conducting some tests of its search engine with the goal of making search more intuitive in time for the busy shopping season. The series of tests will “slightly” affect search on Etsy, the company said, “with the goal of helping your items get discovered.”

Etsy provided few details about the tests, but said users might notice small changes as they browse the site. “These tests are meant to be intuitive for buyers and undisruptive for sellers. For example, some of you will see the option to filter search results within a pre-set price range during testing.”

It also said the tests are unrelated to its acquisition of Blackbird Technologies – “any changes that result from the acquisition will require some time to integrate our platforms.”

And it wrote, “Rest assured that the overall search experience on Etsy is not changing.”

Etsy also announced Wednesday it is retiring its much beloved Treasury feature, a member-curated gallery showcasing interesting items for sale on Etsy. It had already removed the feature from the home page in the spring.

Sellers are protesting the move, which takes effect on October 5, 2016.
