Amazon Pay Tempts Merchants with Echo Device

Amazon is tempting merchants to sign up for its Amazon Pay payments solution by dangling an Amazon Echo device before their eyes. An email described the new promotion as follows:

“For a limited-time, new Amazon Pay merchants who register for this New Year offer and complete $1,000 in Amazon Pay transactions before March 15, 2019, will receive a free Amazon Echo (second generation).”

Merchants are unlikely to take the trouble to sign up for new payments solution simply to get a free device that costs only $99, but the promotion is an effective way to get their attention. Amazon described how it could help merchants’ business:

“The New Year is the perfect time to take a fresh look at the new opportunities 2019 presents. Whether you’re looking for ways to reach more customers, or simply looking to optimize your customers’ shopping experience, Amazon Pay can help you take your business to the next level.”

According to the terms of the promotion, “Only Amazon Pay accounts with a first transaction date after January 2, 2019 are eligible for the Offer. The Offer does not apply to any use of Amazon Payments prior to January 2, 2019.” Be sure to read the promotion terms carefully for details and restrictions, and more importantly, be sure to understand the Amazon Pay costs and benefits and the terms and conditions of use.
