In the days before Christmas, sellers noticed Etsy listings were not showing up at all in Google Shopping. An Etsy moderator confirmed the problem on Christmas Day and returned to the discussion board thread the following day to report that the company was investigating.
“Etsy shops are not showing up in Google Shopping,” a seller had written on Christmas Eve. “Not any shop/item at all. It doesn’t seem to matter what category. Even a search for just Etsy in Google Shopping doesn’t show a single shop or item.”
One seller said Etsy shops had not been showing up in Google Shopping for 3 days, another said the 21st was the last day they had any views from Google Shopping ads. “Been zero ever since,” they wrote.
An Etsy spokesperson responded to EcommerceBytes’s inquiry on Sunday with the following statement: “Thanks for reaching out on this. We’re always focused on maximizing seller return through GPLAs and strategically adjust our investment throughout the year, depending on seasonality. Last-minute holidays shopping tends to be done in person, as products won’t arrive by Christmas with online shipping times.”
The statement implies an intentional reduction of Etsy’s Google PLA advertising campaign, though the response doesn’t address the actual suspension of ads over Christmas.
Sellers noticed Etsy resumed the Google Shopping campaign the day after Christmas, and an Etsy moderator returned to the thread on Sunday to write, “Looks like the ads were not being served for a day or two there, but they are now back to normal and running smoothly. We’ll get back with more information later.”
