Scott Cutler Able to Turn Full Attention to eBay Marketplaces

Scott Cutler

Scott CutlerIt was a bit of a shock when eBay lost the head of its North American Marketplaces last summer, since Hal Lawton had only been at the company since 2015. eBay named Scott Cutler as Lawton’s replacement, but said Cutler would continue to serve as head of StubHub while it searched for a new leader.

Seven months later, eBay named Singh Cassidy President of StubHub. She will report to eBay CEO Devin Wenig and become a member of eBay’s executive leadership team.

In today’s announcement, eBay wrote, “Singh Cassidy succeeds Scott Cutler at StubHub, who recently became SVP and head of eBay’s Americas business unit.”

Presumably Cutler will have more time to devote to eBay Marketplaces now that he no longer has responsibility for running the StubHub unit. Up to now, he has kept a low profile – announcements to eBay users that would typically have come from Lawton (and before that, his predecessors), now often come absent anyone’s name. He did recently participate in a webinar about eBay’s move to becoming a payments intermediary.

Meanwhile, StubHub is a small but important unit for eBay. Sukhinder Singh Cassidy comes with ecommerce experience, including having worked at Amazon and Google and having founded a video commerce marketplace (Joyus). She was also CEO of Polyvore for 7 months in 2010.

She was previously the founder and Senior Vice President of business development at Yodlee , and in 2015, she founded theBoardlist, “a curated marketplace to help discover and find exceptional women leaders for private company boards.”
