eBay’s former Vice President of Seller Operations and Engagement has landed a job at Facebook. Marni Levine’s LinkedIn profile shows she joined the social media company as its new Vice President of Global Commerce Operations this month.
Levine had joined eBay in 2017 and was most recently active as a seller advocate, heavily utilizing the Facebook platform to engage with sellers. At the beginning of the pandemic, she began doing weekly seller check-ins using the Facebook video webcasts.
She announced her pending departure from eBay last month without saying when she was leaving or where she was going.
This year, Facebook accelerated its ecommerce initiatives as the pandemic disrupted retail, the company’s head of Small Business Rich Rao told EcommerceBytes last month. It launched Shops in May, for example, offering sellers the ability to stand up full-fledged stores on their Facebook business pages and on Instagram.
If Levine is keeping abreast of eBay news, she may be relieved she left eBay just before the shipping nightmare hit sellers. Comments on Monday’s eBay Seller Check-in on Facebook shows how dire things are for sellers being squeezed between buyers and eBay over shipping delays.
They deserve each other. Dumb and Dumberer!
Can you truly be a ‘Seller Advocate’ if you have never advocated for sellers? Someone ask Griff, he would know.
seller advocate??? what a joke.
I wonder if that’s why face book page and market place just changed. Its a mess, FB page is over sized and the market place now show’s mostly “ships to” then local ads, it was a good source of inventory now its useless
@ tsme35: I refuse to do FB, and my whole family is on FB. That’s how they message each other and get into fights. No FB for me. And it’s a little late for FB to join the ecommerce family isn’t it? It has to outdo Ebay, Etsy, Posh (which is going public) and AMZ, WM, to name a few. Zuckerberg is always a day late and a dollar behind. Maybe he should try and join the space race with Bezos.
RL
shes a seller advocate the same way Griff is.
truth is WE are seller advocates – shes nothing but a Walkers Food Consumption Engineer
Pace
well put
Oh dear. I’ve been doing great on Facebook and any ideas that come from an eBay mind can really put a wrench in the system.
FB shops is incredibly difficult to set up. And it’s NOT new, despite Zuckerberg making a big to-do about it back in May. I set up a FB shop several years ago, though I never sold anything from it. My biggest complaint was that, as a seller of OOAK items, I need to be able to delete items that have sold and I couldn’t figure out how to do that. And, unlike eBay, FB has ZERO customer service. I deleted my FB shop more than a year ago. Not sure if I’ll ever try it again because Etsy & eBay are both working very well for me these days.
