The executive who helped guide eBay sellers through the early days of the coronavirus pandemic and left for Facebook after scandal rocked the marketplace later that year has landed a top position at TikTok, according to The Information.
The Information article is behind a paywall, but reporter Ann Gehan’s tweet said Levine, along with former Amazon executive Nicolas Le Bourgeois, will replace Sandie Hawkins, who was identified as TikTok’s top US ecommerce executive.
The report from The Information comes the same day TikTok launched a fulfillment service for UK merchants.
Readers may recall Levine’s role as seller advocate at eBay who began doing weekly seller check-ins using the Facebook video webcasts before leaving to become a Vice President at Facebook in December 2020.
Le Bourgeois’s LinkedIn profile shows he left Amazon in January 2023, where he was Director of its US Marketplace, and has been Chief Operating Office of social-shopping app Flip, since October 2022.
Hawkins’ LinkedIn profile shows she joined TikTok in June 2020.
Just more musical chairs for people that can not keep a job
It also tells you the state of eBay – that so many people leave (from various places) to make NEW ecommerce offerings.
eBays biggest mistakes have cost the platform untold billions.
eBay “used to be” THE PLACE to go and to make sales, but GROSS mismanagement has kept the stock below $50, decimated its numbers of buyers and sellers and BIRTHED Mercari and Poshmark.
EVERY sale made on another platform is one eBay could have had, had they not pissed off SO MANY people.
I’ve done 500+ transactions on Mercari – and they all COULD have been on eBay – but eBay would rather “fight then switch”.
