Amazon is making it easier for US merchants to accept its payments solution off-Amazon thanks to a deal with Worldpay, which announced Wednesday it is the first acquirer enabling Amazon Pay for its merchants.
Worldpay promised benefits for merchants, including “an expedited, consistent and seamless online checkout experience.” How? Millions of shoppers can make purchases online with the information already stored in their Amazon account, it said.
“Through Worldpay’s API, online merchants can easily integrate and add Amazon Pay to their website. Merchants can now enable Amazon Pay, with Worldpay as both their gateway provider and acquirer. With this integration, Worldpay continues to make it easier for its merchants to manage their business by centralizing all their payment methods into one place, providing consistency in settlement, data reporting, reconciliation and more.”
Vice President of Amazon Pay Patrick Gauthier said in the press announcement: “At Amazon, we are continuously looking for ways to invent and simplify on behalf of our customers. Working with Worldpay will make it easier for merchants to grow their business by providing customers with a familiar and trusted experience throughout the shopping journey.”
Worldpay called it an extension of its payment processing for Amazon and said Amazon Pay would become available to Worldpay US customers this month.
The news comes days after Worldpay and FIS announced they were merging in a deal that would see the newly combined company recording over $12 billion in pro forma annual revenue for 2018.
That announcement described WorldPay as an industry leading global merchant acquirer and one of the world’s top payment technology companies powering global omni-commerce and providing solutions for merchants, businesses and financial institutions on a global basis. “It processes over 40 billion transactions annually, supporting more than 300 payment types across more than 120 currencies.”
