Amazon Pay Woos Online Merchants and Developers

Amazon Pay

Amazon PayAmazon is a major sponsor at this week’s Magento Imagine developers conference and touted the benefits of its services, including its Amazon Pay payments solution for online merchants.

Attendee John Hughes, Technical Director at FisheEye and a certified Magento specialist, tweeted the photo of a slide from an Amazon session that displayed the following message:

“Amazon Pay: Customers can quickly check in and check out on your site using the information stored in their Amazon accounts. Streamline your shopping experience by bringing the convenience of Amazon to your site.”

Hughes tweeted, “New @amazon integrations coming for #Magento 2 for Amazon Marketplace and Fullfilment. @amazonpay also being bundled in to the core in 2.2.4. Really powerful tools for merchants.”

(More information is available here.)

Eric Broussard, Amazon’s Vice President of International Marketplaces and Retail, was a keynote speaker, and said over 25% of global revenue generated by sellers on Amazon in 2017 came from cross border sales – “this is a tremendous opportunity as you have control over your brand and you choose the country you want to sell into.” He also told attendees: “Know your customers if you want to drive business.”

Another tweet quoted Amazon Pay’s Senior Program Manager Bruce Salerno: “A delightful voice commerce experience needs an easy, seamless payment solution. That solution is Amazon Pay for Alexa Skills.”

Teams from Amazon Pay, Amazon 3P Sellers, and AWS are also on hand at the Amazon booth as the conference continues on Thursday.

Amazon had rarely exhibited, sponsored, or provided speakers to ecommerce events, but has gotten far more aggressive in recent years, as this year’s Magento Imagine conference demonstrates.
