FedEx Reveals Canadian Holiday Shopping Habits and Fears

FedEx surveyed 1,500 Canadians to probe their holiday shopping habits and fears. Forty percent of Canadians said they were more likely to shop online for holiday gifts this year compared to last year. But 7 in 10 said they worried about stolen packages delivered to their home.

FedEx also discovered that 16% of respondents admitted to shopping online to pass the time while visiting in-laws.

While 29% said they had experienced package theft in the past, 62% of respondents who shopped online said they did so to save time; 59% said they did so because of better stock and selection of online retailers; and 35% said they shopped online in order to shop in peace without interaction with others.

Lisa Lisson, President of FedEx Express Canada, said data showed Canadians are 56% more likely to shop online compared to five years ago.

Edelman, in partnership with Logit Group, conducted the survey on behalf of FedEx between September 20 and September 25 among a sample of 1,500 Canadian consumers above the age of 18. The interviews were conducted online and respondents were sourced using online panels. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
