eBay Names Outsider to Head Its Enterprise Unit

It took eBay 6 months to find a replacement to head its enterprise division, and ultimately it chose an outsider with a technology rather than retail background. eBay named Craig Hayman President of its eBay Enterprise business on Tuesday. Tobias Hartmann, vice president, Omnichannel Operations and International, had been serving as interim president.

Chris Saridakis, the former president of eBay Enterprise, resigned for personal reasons in January – he is facing charges of insider trading related to eBay’s acquisition of the unit in 2011, then called GSI Commerce.

Hayman comes to eBay from IBM where he spent the past 15 years in leadership roles. He led the company’s transformation to become a SaaS provider and was the worldwide leader for enterprise SaaS solutions targeted at CMOs, and ecommerce professionals. Hayman led IBM’s acquisitions of over a dozen companies including Sterling Commerce and Coremetrics, and built a partner network that included global and regional system integrators.

In a statement, Donahoe said, “Technology continues to have a significant impact on the overall commerce landscape. Craig’s experience will enhance our ability to serve retailers and brands in this online to offine world.”

While Hayman said, “I am delighted to join eBay Enterprise during this transformative time in its history and see tremendous opportunity for the organization. A longtime customer of IBM, eBay Enterprise’s fulfillment centers, drop-ship and Ship-from-Store capabilities are unique in helping retailers better serve their customers. Hayman will report to eBay CEO John Donahoe, who is also looking for a replacement for eBay’s other major business unit PayPal after David Marcus resigned for a post at Facebook – his last day is Friday.
