Bonanza Makes Image-Cleanup Tool Free for Sellers

Marketplaces are eager to help sellers improve the quality of their product listings. eBay-alternative Bonanza.com launched a tool in 2012 to help sellers improve their photos, and announced this week it was making the tool available to sellers for free.

Bonanza Background Burner aims to make it easy for sellers to improve their photos by removing the background. The benefit to sellers? “Images with a clean white background can increase sales conversion by 300%,” Bonanza states, and the company said it has removed more than 1,769,071 backgrounds to date.

When it launched in 2012, Bonanza’s Background Burner cost 49 cents for registered Bonanza users and 99 cents for unregistered users; sellers could save money by purchasing bundles (30 “burns” for $10, for example).

The quality of product listings on marketplaces can vary widely. Even on Amazon where the catalog had been considered the gold standard, sellers now frequently complain about unprofessional descriptions and poor quality photos. And it matters – other marketplaces have also stated that better quality photos help boost conversions.

With this week’s announcement that it was making the photo tool free to use, Bonanza also said it added the ability to resize “burned” images. “With this functionality (resizing images) you can customize your images so they meet the image guidelines for other marketplaces (ie, eBay) you sell on.”

Other enhancements to the photo-editing tool are in the works, and the company plans to bring the tool to its mobile platform as well. The company published the news on the Bonanza blog.
