eBay Checkout Outage Lasts Two Hours

eBay shoppers were unable to complete a purchase on the marketplace Thursday morning after a global-wide problem with eBay’s checkout. Buyers began experiencing problems shortly after 8 am Eastern yesterday morning, and checkout was restored at about 10 am.

People turned to the eBay discussion boards, Twitter, and systems board such as Down Detector and Ecommerce EKG. eBay utilized its Systems Announcement Board to acknowledge the problem at 9:20 am, and reported the problem over at 10 am. It also acknowledged the problem on Twitter.

Buyers who tried to checkout to complete their transactions were receiving an error message: “Checkout is currently unavailable, so you won’t be able to pay for your items right now. Please pay for your items later. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Some people said they had been experiencing several technical problems prior to the Checkout outage, such as a seller on the eBay boards who said they had been experiencing the same issue on Wednesday evening and displayed a screenshot that showed an error message they had gotten that read, “We were unable to load your cart.”

And on the EcommerceBytes Blog, users said they had experienced problems with eBay messages, purchase history, the revise item feature, and problems uploading photos.
