eBay is adding new shipping options from UPS, it announced on Wednesday. On eBay, sellers have a choice in how they ship packages, though they must select an option with tracking if they want to avoid potential seller performance issues.
eBay currently integrates its Shipping Label program with USPS and FedEx. One seller was concerned Wednesday’s news might mean eBay would be dropping FedEx. (“Does that mean they are dropping FedEx,” they asked, “Or will be have both?”)
eBay’s announcement said nothing about dropping any options.
“eBay supports its sellers by bringing them the best tools and services for their business needs, and beginning later this week, the company will offer sellers even more choice when it comes to how they ship with the option to use UPS as an integrated service,” it said. “The full launch of this new shipping option will be available to all sellers by the end of September.”
UPS began targeting online sellers in October as part of its Digital Access Program when it said it would embed UPS natively into popular ecommerce platforms to help small and medium sized businesses.
eBay said it through the integration with UPS this month, UPS would be added to eBay Labels, available in both desktop and mobile, and had the following to say about the cost for sellers:
“Seller Savings: Discounts of up to 48%* off UPS® Ground shipments and up to 62%* on daily rates for UPS 2nd Day Air® service, including various waived or discounted surcharges. When printing UPS labels through eBay, savings are automatic – no need to sign up.”

1) I can ship 4 oz. via USPS for $2.71-$2.87.
2) USPS picks up 6 days a week at my door. I don’t need a drop-off.
3) eBay would enrich itself by 10% at MY expense of any incremental cost by my using UPS.

May all your package be 4 ounces then…. I have a 35# A-B motor that should sell for $1500+ that isn’t going USPS. Probably 50% of my sales are items that will be shipped using my UPS account and are well worth making a trip to the UPS store.UPS will allow you to open an account and get a discount without using eBay to ship. I like to keep options that under my control…..
I am both CHEERED and sel on edge over this one. Why? Because UPS LEFT EBAY, not vice-versa.
It was because THOUSANDS of eBay sellers Casually STIFFED UPS by misstating Gross Shipping Weight and ESPECIALLY by “gaming” the DIMENSIONAL WEIGHT rules UPS has for ALL of their classes of shipping.
I don’t expect this to work RIGHT for UPS on this Second Go-Around, either.
Just read the comments from ecommercebytes users who BLAME EBAY for their having to see PRICE CORRECTIONS come back thru eBay/PayPal for their having UNDERSTATED the SHIPPING WEIGHT or having FABRICATED the DIMESIONS of their packages.
Not PICKING ON “ebayout” who was first poster on this article, but I’m constantly BAFFLED by those who think that eBay charging their 10 percent SELLER commission on shipping is somehow akin to MURDER of a stranger. Of course they charge this on shipping. I’ve been on eBay for 25 years and I have VIVID memories of CHEATING SELLERS who listed and sold $1200 appliances for $2.99 with $1450 “shipping charges” to any continental USA address as that way the CHEATING SELLER was paying their SELLER COMMISION only on the $2.99 stated price for the appliance.
Yes, the appliance sellers were on the HIGH END of what was happening, but they were actually cheating ALL OTHER EBAY SELLERS just as much as they were CHEATING eBay.
Those same folks do the same thing to USPS. I remember well the days of low sell price and inflated shipping. Thanks to those folks, we now have to pay final value fees on shipping.
