Delivery Firm Promises Cheaper Rates to Australian Sellers

An article in Lifehacker caught our eye with the news that an Australian delivery firm is targeting Etsy sellers. Sendle is giving Etsy sellers a premium account – valued at $120/year – and promises cheaper rates.

The Sendle website explains, “We tap into big business delivery networks and make them available to everyone. It’s convenient, affordable, and fully carbon offset.” The company also offers Pro rates for volume shippers.

How long does delivery take? “Sendle parcels travel by road – so this might give you a good idea of how long a parcel will take to arrive. Every time you book, you and your customer will get a delivery estimate so you always know what’s what.”

Readers should do their homework by comparing pick-up availability and rates with their current carriers before signing up. Readers may also wish to keep in mind the $120 annual fee when their free one-year account expires, and be sure to study the terms – we noted the following points, for example:

  • “We do not deliver to PO Boxes, locked bags or parcel lockers and deliveries are not made on weekends or public holidays as they apply nationally and to each State.”
  • “All packages are tracked within Sendle’s network of delivery providers. Occasionally, a package may be forwarded outside of this network and Sendle will cease receiving the tracking information.”

Curious about Sendle? This November 2014 article from StartupDaily.net provides some additional background.

Note that the deal offered to Etsy sellers includes an extra $1 off every delivery for the next 12 months.
