eBay Continues Expansion of Global Shipping Program

eBay is continuing to expand its Global Shipping Program (GSP) by adding more countries that are available to sellers in the UK. It is adding six countries to the UK program this month, and last month it added 37 countries.

The goal of GSP is to make it easier for international shoppers to purchase items from sellers, though like sellers, not all buyers are enamored of the program.

When a shopper outside the UK sees a listing on eBay.co.uk, they see the cost of international shipping. The GSP program goes further by displaying additional costs such as taxes and duties imposed by the shopper’s country – eBay does it automatically for GSP items, not the seller.

Some say this makes items appear to be too expensive relative to other items, while eBay says it eliminates any surprise costs an international shopper may encounter.

Sellers who participate in the program don’t have to ship internationally – they ship domestically to eBay’s partner, which then takes responsibility for getting the item to the buyer.

Last month, eBay added countries including Cambodia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Liechtenstein to the program. The six countries joining the program this month are South Africa, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Estonia, and Latvia.
