Your eBay Package May Be Headed to Latin America and Caribbean

eBay sellers who participate in its Global Shipping Program – knowingly or unknowingly – may find their packages going to Latin America and the Caribbean. eBay is adding six new countries to its Global Shipping Program (GSP).

eBay launched the program in 2012 to expand cross-border trade, a high priority for the company. With the program, sellers can ship their package to a domestic location and let eBay take the risk of international shipping, while buyers in other countries can see eBay.com items in their local currencies with all costs included – international shipping as well as customs and duty charges.

The program has been controversial, but as Friday’s announcement demonstrates, eBay is forging ahead nevertheless. The six new countries it is adding to the program as of July 21st are Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago.

“Buyers will have access to an incredible range of products offered by U.S. sellers enrolled in the Program, and will also benefit from end-to-end tracking on all shipments,” eBay stated in the announcement, found here.

eBay opted in sellers who accepted its new User Agreement much to some sellers’ surprise, and sellers who participate in the program but wished to exclude some countries found eBay was overriding their preferences, as EcommerceBytes reportedin March.

The new countries bring the total count to sixty.
