Delcampe Readies New Auction Site for Collectibles

Delcampe is launching a new website that will be better optimized for mobile devices and will be more search-engine friendly. New features include an improved search engine and better automatic management of transactions between sellers and buyers, the site founder told EcommerceBytes.

Sebastien Delcampe said the site represents 80,000 sellers, 300,000 buyers and 2,000 professional sellers and auction houses worldwide. “In order to continue to satisfy this ever-growing community of collectors, we decided to look towards the future and use the thousands of comments gathered through our surveys and put them to practice in what will become the new Delcampe website.”

The launch of the new site is planned for later this year, but the exact date has not yet been revealed. During the coexistence of the new and the old website, the new website will use a slightly different URL, Delcampe said. At some point, the old website will close and the new website will take over the Delcampe.net URL.

Delcampe announced the news and provided details in a video, available on YouTube.

“Functionality wise, the first version of the website will essentially remain the same, save for a few improvements,” Delcampe said. “The real work has been done under the hood: once the old website has been closed, we will be able to easily integrate new and long awaited features, such as a new search engine and better automatic management of transactions between sellers and buyers.”

Delcampe said the fees are not changing – the site offers zero listing fee and a low final value fee – see more information on the website.

So what has the reaction been from sellers to the news? “As is the case with all changes, some are for and some are against, but the majority of our members are looking forward with anticipation to the novelties the new website will bring,” he said.

Members commented on the Delcampe forums, with many noting they would be able to comment in greater detail once the new site launches.

Interestingly a longtime reader who uses Delcampe wrote recently to praise the site. “They don’t constantly screw-up, cause controversy, have lots of complaints, get sued, get hacked, constantly change terms, etc.,” he said. He also noted the longevity of the site – Delcampe launched in 2000, and as we recently noted, it’s celebrating its 15th birthday in October and registered its one-millionth member in June.
