Amazon Developer Day Is Not All Fun and Games

Amazon is hosting a developer day next month in San Francisco. You might recall eBay developer days and think it’s all about ecommerce, but on the surface, it’s about mobile games and entertainment apps.

That’s because the event is being hosted by Amazon Appstore, an Apple App Store-like store where Android users can purchase and download apps to their mobile devices – including the Amazon Kindle Fire, of course.

But it’s not all “fun and games” – as usual, there’s a method to Amazon’s madness. The company’s smartphone might have been a dud, but it’s still got the successful Kindle and Kindle Fire, and its “Echo” tower, making it a hardware company as well as an online marketplace.

Amazon will host a session at its developer day called, “Alexa and Echo: Building Spoken Language Apps and Games for the Internet of Things” presented by David Isbitski.

If Amazon can get developers to build entertainment apps for its Echo device, the more popular it may become. And while Echo is seen by some as a glorified “Siri” assistant that can answer questions and play music, it can also be used by owners to order items from Amazon.

Imagine Echos sitting in living rooms all around the world where people can simply say what they want, and Amazon fulfills their orders.

You can learn more about Amazon Appstore Developer Day on the Amazon website.
