eBay Appeals to Buyers Directly with Promotions

eBay

eBay logoeBay is changing things up when it comes to promotions. eBay has long relied on promotions to encourage sellers to list items that would attract buyers, but eBay is doing more to appeal to buyers directly.

One example is the increase this year in flash sales on eBay – limited time offers that give buyers a coupon for spending a certain minimum amount. Yesterday was the latest such sale – eBay Canada ran a sitewide flash sale in which it gave shoppers $15 off a $75 purchase.

What stands out about these promotions is that eBay is funding flash sales, unlike eBay Deals that are funded by a select group of buyers.

eBay is also currently running a buyer promotion that is by invitation only. While eBay transitioned to invitation-only sales for sellers, this is more unusual on the buyer side.

The promotion gives buyers a $15 discount when they spend at least $75 on eBay Motors Parts & Accessories. “Only invited, registered eBay users who see the Coupon in My eBay are eligible. Sorry, no forwarding – Coupon is not transferable,” eBay explained.

The promotion runs through May 31, 2018, you can visit the landing page here for details and restrictions – and remember – it’s by invitation only.
