eBay’s latest promotion is for members of its eBay Bucks loyalty program and offers 8% in rewards for every qualifying item of $50 or more. It kicked off on March 28 and runs through March 29th.
Like many of its promos, this one is by invitation only, and “Rewards are capped at $100 per transaction and $500 per Earn Period.”
Sellers have noticed an increase in seller promotions for the month of March, which is the last month of its fiscal quarter, leading to speculation it’s trying to boost GMV when it reports earnings in April.
We’ve seen an unprecedented number of sitewide promotions in March – three by our count. Given that the promotions are tied to high-value items, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see eBay report an increase in its Average Selling Price metric – but an improvement it had to subsidize, since sitewide promotions and eBay Bucks come out of eBay’s pocket, not sellers.

Promotion details
The Promotion starts at 5:00AM PT on March 28, 2018 and ends at 11:59PM PT on March 29, 2018 (the “Promotion Period”). The Promotion applies to any qualifying items purchased during the Promotion Period that meet the minimum purchase requirement. You must activate the offer to qualify.
*Qualifying items exclude all items in the following categories: Classifieds; Business & Industrial, but only for Heavy Equipment within that category; Real Estate; Gift Cards & Coupons, including eBay Gift Cards, Gift Cards, and Digital Gifts within that category; Bullion within the Coins & Paper category; and all categories in Motors, except Parts & Accessories.
