eBay Runs Yet Another Sitewide Sale: Spring Black Friday Coupon

eBay Spring Black Friday sale

eBay Spring Black Friday saleeBay is running yet another sitewide coupon sale, the third we’ve identified this month. Shoppers can use the special coupon code (PREPSPRING) to save 15% on qualifying items of $25 or more, with a $50 cap.

The sale runs today only, March 27, and only through the hours of 1 pm and 8 pm PST. Certain categories have further restrictions: Coins & Paper Money, Gift Cards & Coupons, and Real Estate categories.

Sales that run sitewide had been rare until this month. eBay ran a similar sitewide sale on March 9th that gave shoppers 20% off items priced at $25 or more, with a $100 maximum discount. And on March 20th, it ran a sitewide sale giving shoppers 15% off items priced at $25 or more, with discounts capped at $50.

The reason sitewide sales are rare is that eBay picks up the tab, not sellers. Some sellers said they hadn’t seen any bump from the recent coupon sales, but as one seller on the AuctionBytes Blog wrote, “I think eBay is doing this as an experiment to see if this would work on a word-of-mouth basis. If they advertised the sale heavily, it would cost them a lot of money if successful.”

Typically eBay “sales” are limited to a small number of merchants that participate in its eBay Deals program. In fact, eBay announced yesterday the beginning of a 7-day sale limited to Deals only, calling it a “Spring Black Friday” sale – don’t get confused between the two sales.

Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully for details and restrictions to make sure you understand which sale applies to the item you’re purchasing, when the sale applies, and what you must do to activate the coupon.

  1. I sell an average of 4-5 items every day, and these three promotions have stimulated a total of two (2) sales. Not for each, but for all 3!!

It would be expected that a promo of this type would certainly increase the amount of items sold, whether aggressively promoted or not.

Does eBay hide everyone’s items (except big box sellers, of course) at the same time as these sales are announced?? Or has the site continued to not be a top destination for buyers anymore???
