Visa Checkout Is Gaining Momentum

Visa launched its Visa Checkout online payment service in 2014 with the help of former PayPal executive Sam Shrauger, now Senior Vice President of Digital Solutions at Visa. This week it previewed a new design that will launch in April offering “a host of features that make shopping easier for online and mobile customers, while also making it faster than ever for merchants to customize and integrate the service.”

The new Visa Checkout experience is designed to be more connected to the look and feel of the merchant’s own checkout, with consistent messaging and branding that create an “in-context” flow for the shopper.

It also announced this week that it was expanding Visa Checkout to merchants and consumers across France, India, Ireland, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom this year.

Since its introduction, Visa Checkout has launched in 16 countries, with usage growing to more than 11 million consumer accounts and acceptance by more than 250,000 merchants. In 2016, the service will reach a total of 22 markets around the world, including Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, the UK, and US.

The geographic and feature expansions follow the move by Visa to open its platform to outside developers earlier this month.
