A member of Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program is laying off workers in New England, according to media reports. Amazon launched the DSP program last year in which it trained people to operate their own businesses delivering Amazon packages.
According to the Patch, DSP participant Urban Mobility Now told Amazon they were voluntarily ending their partnership with the program.
Facing layoffs are over 200 Urban Mobility Now workers affiliated with three Massachusetts Amazon facilities – Milford, Dedham and Chelsea, the Patch reported, citing a notice filed with the state. It also said 74 Urban Mobility Now workers affiliated with a Bristol, Connecticut Amazon facility were facing layoffs.
“Urban Mobility Now wrote a letter to the Connecticut government, detailing that the layoffs were a result of a loss of business revenue and economic circumstances. Specifically, the letter mentioned, “a significant downturn in business and accompanying contract termination,”” according to Patch.
In March, Amazon reportedly laid off hundreds of workers after it closed down 87 pop-up stores, according to IBTimes.com.
