eBay Runs Free-Listing Promotion in UK

The good news for sellers? eBay is running a free-listing promotion. The bad news? It’s only running in the UK; it’s only for private (casual) sellers; and it’s by invitation only. And there’s one more important twist to the promotion: most durations don’t qualify – clearly this is a “read the fine print” scenario.

The one-day sale allows casual sellers to list up to 100 auction listings with a 5-day duration and pay no insertion fee. According to the terms, “eBay.co.uk registered private sellers who have been invited and are not below-standard sellers or otherwise restricted from selling. Participation is linked to the seller’s account and is not transferable. Sellers must be registered as a resident in the UK.”

The promotion runs one day only, on February 11, 2014. Listings using the auction-style with Buy it now format will be charged the listing upgrade fee, and, eBay warns, “Listings using other types of auction-style formats (e.g. 3-day, 10-day) will not be eligible.”

Only sellers whose accounts meet eBay’s minimum seller performance standards are eligible. Sellers who registered after March 15, 2011 or haven’t listed any items for a while may have a listing allowance of 10 items per month or of 650 pounds per month, whichever is reached first.

All other fees apply, see eBay UK website for details and restrictions.
