Etsy Adds Anti Spoof Feature to Help Deter Fraud

Etsy is adding a new feature in response to the increase in targeted emails directed at sellers by fraudsters. In an announcement on Monday, Etsy wrote:

“We’ve recently seen increased reports from sellers who’ve received communications from individuals claiming to be Etsy employees. So, we’ve just introduced a new “From Etsy” section in Messages, to make it easier for you to identify when you’re receiving an official communication from Etsy or someone on the Etsy team.”

Sellers should look in the new “From Etsy” section for messages from Etsy Marketing, Support, Research, and Community teams, it advised sellers.

EcommerceBytes had written in June about the clever attempts to fool sellers and the efforts by a seller with the user id “Bradgoodell” to educate his colleagues about the scam. (See: “Red Alert: Do Not Share Your Email with Etsy or with Buyers.”)

In August, Etsy issued a warning to sellers and provided tips on how to stay safe.

Sellers discussed the new feature today and shared screenshots in a thread on the Etsy discussion boards posted by Bradgoodell.
